During the summer, Sul (or Baleia) beach is a family space, which everyone knows of. The canopies and stalls with colourful strips identify the several swimming concessions, housing authentic clans and creating a sensation of a journey back into time. The Vila Galé hotel (formerly Hotel de Turismo) is a beloved and iconic part of the landscape.
Sheltered from the north winds by Ponta de Santa Marta, we are in one of the safest bathing areas of this Atlantic coast, but even so there are still waves that will delight surfers and bodyboarders. The beach is supervised by a lifeguard and the SOS Praia (Beach SOS) system; it has bars for the bathers, public changing rooms and showers.
